We integrated this story into newsletters and automations to build the trust and relationship between the brand and the customer. Our first ever client was a family man in Georgia USA who ran a tiny store. He believed that Pitbulls had received an unfair reputation and it was his mission to tell the truth. We told his story, attracted thousands of likeminded people who had the same belief and created a community of Pitbull lovers. We had generated $10 000 dollars in email sales during the first month from a list of just over 2000 people. This became our speciality. We would find small and passionate entrepreneurs, tell and distribute their story via email marketing and attract, nurture and retain like minded customers. Eventually we grew to start working with brands who needed no introduction, their history was well established. One brand told us that they didn't need a story since they had operated since 1991 and were well established in their industry. However, they sent the same monthly newsletter to the entire customer base. Having a fantastic relationship with your customers doesn't mean anything if you can't put the right message infront of the right person. Think about it, someone who has purchased in your store 10 times doesn't need the same messaging as someone who has discovered you. We started sending segmented newsletters and saw the exact same increase in performance with the big company as we did the smaller guys. Eventually, we learnt that we were leaving a lot of money on the table by not using automations.
